Women in the Life Association Welcomes You!
By, for and about lesbians of color, Women in the Life Association (WITLA) launches it dynamic film series on Friday, June 13, 2008 during Capital Pride Week. The social justice organization is utilizing film as a new medium to further their mission of giving voice to the Women that love Women in Washington. To kick off this new chapter, WITLA presents the Official Washington release of Tiona M's "black:womyn.:conversations with lesbians of African descent." Although, originally programmed as a weekend-long festival, WITLA has instead decided to establish a series featuring a spectrum of films, discussions, and panels throughout the year. By all accounts, a high-profile series of this nature is unprecedented in the Washington area.
In partnership with local organizations, the WITLA film series is dedicated to bringing innovative and groundbreaking films to our area! It is determined to combat the media that repeatedly overlooks, or demonizes lesbians of color! In order to know our stories, our histories, ourselves, we must be seen and our voices must be heard. Films will continuously be brought to different (DC, Maryland and Virginia) DMV locations from all around the world. Women will have access to international shorts, documentaries, and entertaining films from Cuba, Puerto Rico, China and the US! This landmark event is just the beginning of promoting unity within different culturesand promoting positive growth within ourselves!--
