Women in the Life Association Herstory Women in the Life Association (WITLA) is a social justice organization advancing the rights of lesbians of color through cultural affirmation, education and advocacy. It is the only non-profit of its kind in the district. The organization’s primary programs are The Wanda’s Will Project and No More Drama: Domestic Violence Prevention. The Wanda's Will Project is a national awareness program that empowers lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) to execute final and living wills that are legally binding. WITLA utilizes pro bono attorneys and legal workshops to educate communities on the importance of will execution. This Project removes the financial and psychological barriers that so often prevent people from ensuring their wishes are fully honored in life and beyond. No More Drama: Domestic Violence Prevention program addresses the increasing incidents of intimate partner violence in the lesbian of color demographic.

WITLA acts as an conduit to counseling and emergency services for both the victim and the violator of abusive relationships. No More Drama is a founding member of The Rainbow Response, a city-wide coalition of organizations that have joined forces to collectively stem the tide of the growing intimate partner violence epidemic. The Open Mic Series is a monthly forum for lesbians to express themselves via poetry, music, and performance art. The series has provided a safe space for them to gather for over 15 years and has featured such critically acclaimed poets as Venus Trash, Erica Doyle. Strengthening its branch of arts enrichment this year, Women In The Life Association is birthing it very first Film Festival. WITLA FILM FESTIVAL During Capital Pride Week, WITLA is hosting its first annual film series Thursday, June 12 - Sunday, June 15, 2008. By all accounts, this high- profile event is unprecedented in the Washington area. It will be DC’s very first film festival strictly by, for and about lesbians of color.
